Kamla is a highly specialized corporate lawyer with a broad corporate and securities practice. She has a specific focus on cross border (public and private) mergers and acquisitions and she regularly advises clients on joint ventures, corporate structuring, corporate governance, and board room/shareholder dynamics.
Kamla provides the expertise, quality and experience of an Amsterdam transactional lawyer, with an in-depth understanding of the local markets and its dynamics. She delivers quality at the highest end of the market with a pragmatic approach. She understands international transaction dynamics and the demands that come with it. Because of her dual degrees, qualifications in three jurisdictions and broad international experience, Kamla communicates and advises international clients at the level they are accustomed to in their respective jurisdictions. At the same time, she understands local dynamics, enabling her to guide local clients in (international) transaction dynamics. Kamla grew up in the Dutch Caribbean and studied at Leiden University (Leiden, Netherlands, LLM, 1997) and Columbia University (New York, United States, LLM, 2005). She is admitted to the local, Amsterdam and New York bars. Kamla was the chairlady of the supervisory board of Princess Juliana International Airport Operating Company from January 2020 until June 2023.
Kamla started her career in 1997 as a junior associate at local law firms. After obtaining a LL.M. degree at Columbia University in 2005 and passing the New York bar, she joined Houthoff (Amsterdam), where she focused exclusively on (cross-border) M&A and capital markets transactions.
